For a three day weekend we went to Lagos. We had lots of amazing food that I want to share. On the first day for lunch we went to Camilo. It was a seafood restaurant near the ocean. For no reservations during a weekend we got in fairly quickly. I am not a huge fan of seafood, so I got calamari rings which were delicious. They were crispy and not fishy at all. For the appetizer we had lots of mini salads, great for a family with different tastes because there was something for everyone. My dad got mini “fried” squid. When Europe says fried they don’t mean the crispy bread fried, they mean cooked in oil. It was not our favorite because it was fishy and hard to get the good bites out of. Camilo was good in general, so if you are in Lagos, you should experience their food culture which is seafood, at Camilo.
That day for dinner we went to a Chinese restaurant called Peiking Chinese Restaurant. This may sound like your average restaurant you see everywhere, but I can tell you that it was spectacular. The service was kind and patient. We over-ordered thinking that the two person meal was actually only enough for two people and getting other food for the other two kids. We had enough food for two dinners and we were glad. It was so tasty that we wanted it for another dinner. Our order included:
Spring rolls: Very fresh, only vegetables though and needs something else
Peking Duck wrap: Crispy and flavorful. Was held in a rice paper tortilla thing that was very fragile.
Vegetable noodles (rice noodles):
Sizzling beef: had a mixture of vegetables with it, came in a sizzling pan and the waitress had to protect her arm from getting a burn, flavorful with saltiness
Fried rice: light on the friedness and vegetables and heavy with egg
Sweet and sour chicken: tender and a delicious sauce that was sweet and sour as you can guess. The chicken itself was low on flavor though.
On Day two we had lots of yummy things, too. For breakfast we went to Cafe de Creme. The bagels were creamy with the cream cheese and crunchy with the everything bagel sesame seeds. Great textures and flavors in general. The French toast thing called …. was not the best. The inside was soggy and bland. The only good part was the crispy cinnamon spice crust. I don’t recommend it. Overall, if you are desperate to get breakfast out, this is your place to get delicious bagels, but focus on bagels.
That’s it for today’s post. Here is the website for the only one that has a website.
